The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority - Dehcho Region provides services from the town of Fort Simpson which is located at the confluence of the MacKenzie and Liard Rivers and serves as the gateway to the immense beauty of the Nahanni Mountains. The population is made up of Dene, Metis and non-indigenous people and embraces a vast history and culture.
The health centre in Fort Simpson serves as the the administrative headquarters for the region and has two acute care rooms and five clinic rooms. A social services and a long-term care facility are attached to the health centre. Two physicians serve the community sharing call duties and board a Cessna 206 to service the fly-in communities of Nahanni Butte, Wrigley, Samba K'e (Trout Lake) and Fort Liard on a weekly basis.
