The most northern health region in Canada, the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Autority - Beaufort Delta Region operates the Inuvik Regional Hospital and serves Inuvik and 7 other arctic communities including; Aklavik, Fort McPherson, Tsiigehtchic, Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, Sach’s Harbour and Ulukhaktok. Primarily the Inuvialuit and Gwich’in First Nations inhabit these remote communities. Traditional knowledge and culture are of great importance in the region and the revival of traditional games, indigenous language, music and arts are prime examples of this and can be seen yearly in Inuvik at the Great Northern Arts Festival.
The Inuvik Regional Hospital is a modern, 50 bed accredited facility and offers acute, long-term, preventative and rehabilitative care, as well as elective and emergency surgery. There are 9 physicians, based in Inuvik, regularly visit the communities and offer support to the community health nursing staff that provide primary care in the remote community health centres.
The Beaufort Delta Region welcomes you to practice in some of the most diverse environments in the country from mountain landscapes to Canada's most northern highway with a drive through the pingo dotted landscapes that ends at the spectacular beauty of the arctic ocean.
