Take Our Kids to Work Day is a national annual event that welcomes Grade 9 students into workplaces to explore career opportunities available to them.
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services System (NWT HSS System) has proudly participated in this event for several years, hosting virtual sessions for Grade 9 students across the territory as well as in-person events in the Yellowknife, Hay River, and Inuvik regions.
On November 5, 2025, the NWT HSS System hosted a variety of opportunities for Grade 9 students:
- Virtual half-day event for any interested NWT students
- Virtual half-day event for teachers participating with their classes
- In-person full-day events in Yellowknife and Hay River for students in those areas (limited capacity)
During the Yellowknife event, students enjoyed presentations, toured the hospital, and participated in job shadows across eight different practice areas.
In Hay River, students spent the day exploring hospital departments, learning about healthcare careers, and engaging in hands-on activities.
Our virtual event connected Grade 9 classrooms across the NWT with healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, an oral health professional, and a general surgeon.
Inuvik will host its full-day, in-person event on November 13, 2025.
We extend our sincere thanks to hospital administrators, organizers, mentors, presenters, teachers, and students for making these events a success!
Save the date for next year’s event on November 4, 2026. We’re excited to welcome next year’s Grade 9 students and introduce them to the wide range of health and social service careers available in the Northwest Territories.
