COVID-19 Response

NWT Locum Hiring during COVID-19

In anticipation of the increased burden on the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services System (HSS System) as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northwest Territories is actively looking for both locum and permanent health and social services professionals ready and willing to work in the Northwest Territories. Our current locum and permanent needs include Physicians and Registered Nurses.

PHYSICIAN LOCUMS

In addition to our regular recruitment needs, the NWT is looking for physicians ready and willing to work in the coming months as we manage Coronavirus. As a small system covering vast geography and vulnerable populations, we are fragile. If even a few of our physicians are unable to work due to illness or isolation, or our current locum pool becomes unavailable, we may rapidly need to call upon our colleagues in other parts of Canada to help us continue to deliver necessary medical services to residents of the NWT.

Of course, it is also a fantastic place to live and work, and with benefits such as paid travel and accommodation and competitive daily rates, you may just decide you want to keep coming back!

All costs to apply for the NWT Emergency Licensing Temporary Register will be waived and the process has been streamlined so physicians can begin practising in less than one day.

We are primarily looking for physicians to work in-person but also welcome physicians who already know our patients and system to provide Virtual Care. This is particularly appropriate for our regular locums and our Alberta specialists who already see our patients through medical travel in Alberta.

If this is of interest to you, please contact PracticeNWT@gov.nt.caSee our Frequently Asked Questions document for more information.

For more information specific to Alberta physicians on billing, virtual care and how to apply, review message from Dr. Sarah Cook, Territorial Medical Director for the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority at: www.nthssa.ca/en/alberta-doctors-nwt-covid-19-response.

REGISTERED NURSE LOCUMS

In addition to our regular recruitment needs, the Northwest Territories is looking for Registered Nurses who are available and willing to work in the coming months as we manage the additional workload brought on by COVID-19 on the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services System. These locum positions will be based in Yellowknife. We are looking for individuals who are interested in contracts anywhere from 7 days to 6 months!

The Northwest Territories is a fantastic place to live and work, and with benefits such as paid travel and accommodation, and competitive compensation, you may just decide you want to keep coming back! We will reimburse RNANT/NU fees for Registered Nurses who apply within the next 60 days (up to June 2nd)

Does this sound like an opportunity of interest to you? Please contact hlthss_recruitment@gov.nt.ca with your name and resume to become eligible for consideration for locum work.
