This position   is located in the town of Hay River, Northwest Territories on the southern shore of Great Slave Lake. The incumbent will provide services as a practicing GP Physician for the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority (HRHSSA) for 60% of the time and will provide leadership as a Medical Director to practitioners in the South Area for 40% of the time. The South Area includes the communities of Fort Smith, Hay River and Enterprise, as well as the Deh Cho Region. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership in areas of planning, operating, and evaluating delivery of health care services. This work will be supported through collaboration and alignment with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) and the NTHSSA Territorial Medical Director. The SAMD will provide human resource and program delivery leadership to the Area Clinical Leads, while working in collaboration with their co-leaders in other HSS professional areas such as Nursing and Allied Health.

 

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the SAMD would be attained through: 

  • The completion of a Medical Degree plus Residency, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative skills and abilities gained through other leadership positions or roles along with a strong record of working in a team environment. 
  • A Designation as a Canadian Certified Physician Executive or a willingness to acquire this or equivalent designation is required. Experience working in a multi–cultural and northern environment would be an asset.
